CBD is becoming more and more main stream and with that comes even more questions from savvy consumers. We like it when our customers ask us questions, we’re here to help! There are absolutely no dumb questions when it comes to purchasing anything for your health. Here are the top 10 questions that we get on a regular basis.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a non-intoxicating component of the cannabis plant with enormous therapeutic potential. The truth is that it is just one of the hundreds of cannabinoids in this amazing & sacred plant that act on the cannabinoid receptors in our Endocannabinoid System. Researchers are currently studying the effects of CBD on a wide range of conditions including chronic pain, insomnia, PTSD, anxiety, epilepsy, dementia and more.

Are CBD and marihuana from the same cannabis plant?

Hemp and marihuana are different species of the plant known as Cannabis and bred for different purposes. Industrial hemp is exclusively produced by Cannabis sativa, while marihuana can be derived from Cannabis sativa or Cannabis indica. Both hemp and marihuana contain CBD, but there’s a much higher percentage in hemp. Hemp also has much lower levels of THC (less than 1% in Switzerland) than the marihuana species. Hemp’s chemical profile means that you can’t get “high” from it, and it is used to create medicinal remedies, food and oil, as well as other products, including rope, bricks, natural polymers, fiber, clothes and many more.

What does CBD do?

CBD binds to receptors in the body and regulates your immune system, which is said to help with its functioning and the healing process. CBD has also been known to tamp down inflammation and speed up tissue recovery. Extensive preclinical research and some clinical studies have shown that CBD has strong anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant, antidepressant, anti-psychotic, anti-tumoral, and neuroprotective qualities. Research has also shown that the compound can help manage sleep issues, muscle recovery, epilepsy, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and depression.

What is the right dosage of CBD?

The law prohibits us from letting us make any health claims or recommendations on dosage, therefore we suggest you do your own research. There’s plenty on information on the internet! CBD works on a bell curve. Start low and slow and increase your dose until you find your sweet spot and then stay consistent. Observe the effects and if necessary adjust the amount.

Will CBD make me feel high?

No, it will not. CBD from hemp is non-intoxicating and will not impair the user or get them high. All our CBD products contain less than 1% THC. Cannabidiol (CBD) has many health benefits, without producing the psychoactive, "euphoric" effects of THC. “Relaxing but not intoxicating” is how some people have described the effect.

What are cannabinoids?

Cannabinoids (e.g., THC and CBD) are the chemical compounds secreted by cannabis flowers that can affect the human body. They work by imitating compounds our bodies naturally produce, called endocannabinoids, that affect nerve, brain and immune cell activity. Currently, there are two known primary cannabinoid receptors: CB1 and CB2 receptors. CB1 receptors are located in the central nervous system, and in some peripheral tissues. They affect appetite, muscle control, pain, cognition, thermoregulation, and our stress response. CB2 receptors are primarily found in immune cells, and at a lower density in the central nervous system. CB2 activation is associated with immune function and immune cell proliferation, inflammation, and pain. Although these two cannabinoid receptors have been studied relatively extensively, there are more cannabinoid receptors being examined.

Does CBD have side effects?

CBD is recognized as being safe and should not produce side effects in most people. You may feel relaxed, possibly a little drowsy but that’s about it!

Is CBD legal?

Yes it is! Switzerland is probably the most forward-thinking country in Europe concerning legislation for CBD consumption. The Swiss are not copying the legislation that’s already out there, but daring to try, explore and push limits to get the most out of this cannabinoids’ potential. The 1% THC threshold is unique to Switzerland’s law. In most countries the threshold is 0.2-0.3% THC.

So, Why 1%?

It allows the plant to grow to its fullest potential and hence provide the best of its medicinal properties. As in the EU and USA, the maximum threshold allowed is 0.2%, this forces farmers to cut the plant too soon. By doing this, you reduce the amount of THC in the final extract, but you also minimize the medical benefits that it may offer compare to a more mature plant. The Swiss government understands the beneficial properties of CBD as a potential medicine. As we want to make our premium Swiss quality products available to everybody, we also offer our CBD oils with 0% THC that can be shipped worldwide.
